Here i am offering a unique variation on a classic old form. I have turned this crock using hand dug wild stoneware, and modified its form into a lobed shape resembling a squash or melon. To top it all off, i have adorned the ribs with a dot pattern and pulled six elegant little handles, decorating the tails with thumbed designes as i am want to do.
The crock has been dipped in an iron ash glaze, and fired to over 2350f in a wood burning "groundhog" kiln, traditional to this region. This is a very unique piece which would be perfect for displaying fresh or dried flowers, ornamental branches, and even kitchen utensils! The pictures truly dont do it any justice, the glaze is absolutely stunning, dark and speckled with gold, and streakednwith subtle little runs of moonlight blue which i failed to capture on camera
