This type of humble crock jar was an absolute staple in rural life of the past. They where made by the hundreds in many country potteries. Historically such lidless jars where used to store and preserve foods being sealed with wax, butter, or tallow, and covered with a clean cloth.

While such methods of food storage may be antiquated today, this jar will still add a great deal of charm to your kitchen and home, being perfect for anything from cut flowers to storing your favorite wooden spoons and utensils.

As always, this piece is made by hand using locally dug clay, it has been coated in a food safe green alkaline glaze, and fired to over 2350f in a wood burning kiln
