This lovely rustic vase is based on tree stump faux bois pieces made in europe that where popular from the 18th to early 20th century. I have made this piece using my typical hand dug local stoneware clay, carefully turning it on my wheel. It has been lovingly shaped, modified, sculpted, and carved to capture the essence of and old weathered stump. I have dipped it in a thin coat of wood ash glaze, and fired it to over 2350F in a wood burning "groundhog" kiln, as is traditional to this region
