This rustic crock is emblematic of pure southern folk pottery. It is made, as always, using hand dug local clay, hand turned intonantraditional necked crock form. I have applied lug handles, and hand sculpted a grape vine complete with winding tendrils and a big ripening clusted of succulent fruit. The leaves that adorn the vine are made by pressing real wild muscadine leaves into the clay and carefully cutting around them for a beautifully realistic form and texture. 
The finished crock has been dipped in a wood ash nuka glaze and fired in a traditional wood fired catawba valley groundhog kiln. This piece was in a very very hot part of the kiln, firing well above 2350f, as a result the minerals in the clay began to boil, and have produced some blisters on the body, and caused a slight warp to the base. None of these effect the function in any way, and personally i believe this tells the story of the traditional process in a magical way... but as a result, i have decided to offer this piece at a very fair price. It is a perfect addition to your rustic decor, at a fantastic deal
