A preserve jar like this would be right at home in a country kitchen pantury over a century ago. Imagine, a cool autumn morning in the farmhouse kitchen, the cook stove is crackling away bringing warmth to the space. The hot and fresh cornbread has been hastily sliced and buttered, you reach into the cupboard to retrieve a jar like this, knowing it holds something a little special. Apple butter? Or perhaps this one is the brandied peach preserves?
A jar like this harkens back to those times, though modern, it is made with the same traditional technique and craftsmanship. As with all my work, it has been hand turned with wild stoneware clay which i dig locally and process by hand. I have well fitted a very comfortable lid, which, besides looking very nice, protects what every you decide to store inside. I have added a charming pattern to the shoulder of the jar by inlaying little chips of local moonstone directly into the clay, i call this technique "pearlware". Finally, i have dipped it in a traditional alkaline glaze made from wood ash, clay, powdered stone, and glass, and fired it to over 2350f in a wood burning kiln meaning it is very durable and completely food safe. It stands at 9" tall, slightly taller if you account for the lid knob
