Here i am offering you a catawba valley take on the traditional tulip vase. The tulip vase is a multi spouted form that rose to promenance in holland and much of europe during the tulip mania of the 17th century. They are used to display and highlight your prized blooms in an elegant arrangement.
This is a tricky form to make, it is hand turned as a closed form using my hand dug wild clay, before carefully turning and joining six identical spouts and pulling three identical handles. After all of this, i have further adorned this piece with two happy serpents twining through the conplexities of the form, each carefully detailed one mark at a time. I have dipped this piece in a traditional alkaline glaze made from wood ash, clay, stone dust, and ground glass, and wood fired it in the old fashioned "groundhog" kiln at hart square in lincoln county NC. I am reluctant to toot my own horn, but this is an absolutely pristine piece which i would not hesitate to call museum quality.
