I make my tiles by hand, using a centuries old method. I carefully carve a master pattern, cast a plaster mold from it, and hand ram a special clay blend into the hollow to make tiles with high fidelity to the original. think of it as printmaking in clay if you will.
This pattern is based on solar wheel motifs common through history andnacross cultures, but its my take on patterns from the neolithic, bronze age, and iron age. This coaster set has been left unglazed, and simply adorned with an oxide wash which highlights the pattern and allows the natural beauty of the clay to shine through. Each coaster tile is 4" in diameter, perfect for most cups, mugs, and glasses
* please note! My tiles are hand struck in the old time way instead of the dry pressing used for commercial tiles... they are still vary much hand made, and thus may have a little more eccentricity than factory made tile. i institute strict quality controls which reject any which have warped outside of standards... but small eccentricities are perfectly normal
