The "stump jug" is a classic form in the southern pottery diaspora, so named due to its tall slender shape which allowed people to use such form for hiding their liquor down inside a hollow tree stump.
This jug is hand turned with hand dug wild clay and adorned with a beautifully sculpted and detailed happy little snake. It has been coated with a traditional alkaline glaze made from wood ash, stone dust, clay, and ground glass, and fired to over 2350f making it sturdy and food safe
